What to Expect from a Pediatric Chiropractor?

Inspired Family Chiropractic Blog

A majority of our new patient requests right now are infants or pregnant mamas. We have people that drive from all over Southern California to get their babies checked in our office. Babies getting adjusted is a normal part of life at Inspired, and our families who come here because most of our waiting room is full of babies a majority of the time! I was chatting with some new parents that brought their little one in for the first time yesterday and asked how they heard about the office. They were recommended by a friend driving from Highland Park that brings their son in for care, and I told them I was honored that they would make the drive too. She responded so simply, “there’s not a lot of you”.

What makes us different?

To be clear, there are a lot of Chiropractors that see babies. But truthfully how we approach care with a baby looks very different than all of our other patients. We don’t just see babies…

We focus on it.

And we have an entire culture created around the family care that we provide. We thoroughly assess every baby before adjusting them with gentle neurological assessments. Dr. Nicole has specific training to provide the best pediatric care possible. And we have an amazing team that’s equipped and trained to support mamas during their visits, and love on all the littles that come through the doors. The whole experience is designed to keep new parents at ease through the process, and explain everything along the way.

What does the adjustment look like?

One of the best ways I describe how I adjust a little is I’m not creating any twisting, torsion or rotation to their little bodies. I use a single finger contact and gently apply pressure on the body, and because the bones are largely cartilage, it doesn’t take much pressure to realign any misalignments present. The amount of pressure I use is the same amount of pressure you would use to check the ripeness of an avocado. It’s super gentle, and babies usually love it and/or sleep right through.

Our babies lay in our pregnancy pillows, and are usually so content! Content enough that almost every parent will ask where we get these pillows because they want them at home. As much as I think the pillows are amazing, I always joke that it’s all the amazing energy in those pillows that makes all the difference. We’ve seen hundreds of babies, and are just getting started.

When should you get your baby checked?

We see kiddos as early as a few days old. Checking for any possible nerve interference or misalignments of the bone helps with overall health and development. We recommend checking babies as early as mom is comfortable getting out of the house. Some moms bring them in in the first two weeks, some wait until about four to six weeks. If any symptoms or concerns arise, the sooner the better. If baby is doing great, a good timeframe for a well check is within the first 6 weeks. Specific things we see lots of kiddos for is latching difficulties, sleep issues, constipation, reflex, head shape concerns, and colic. If you begin to notice your babe struggling with latch on one side, or rotation of head is showing preference to one side, these are early signs that baby may need to be adjusted.

Our instagram is full of photos of pediatric and infant adjustments, and the results we get in our office. We are here to help, so please give us a call to answer any questions you may have about pediatric chiropractic care.
