Pediatric Chiropractic & Constipation

Inspired Family Chiropractic Blog

Our office is full of kiddos, it’s one of our specialties. We love seeing kiddos not just because it makes our office the most fun job around, but because pediatric chiropractic works. We see the kiddo’s health transform under our care every single day. Although our office has littles running around at any given moment, one of the most common things said to me by our current practice members is “Why would a baby need a chiropractor?” If the people that are in my office consistently don’t know the why, my guess is you don’t either.

What is Pediatric Chiropractic?

So, why would a little baby new to the world need a Chiropractor? I always say healthy kids grow to be healthy adults, and creating a shift in the health of our kids will create a shift in the health of the world. Maybe it’s less about what’s wrong with the kids that see a Chiropractor, and more about making sure things start off on the healthiest path possible. To put it simply, birth is traumatic, especially for the upper cervical spine. By checking a baby for any misalignments in the spine, we ensure optimal function from the get go.

Don’t you wish that you knew the stress that’s been building into your body most of your life could have been avoided if you began getting adjusted as a kiddo? I’ve never had an adult tell me no. Of course we all wish that we experienced Chiropractic care earlier once our body’s start getting better, but we only know what we know.

Taking stress off a body that’s only been earthside for a few weeks, months or years will heal significantly faster than one who’s been holding stress for 10-20 times that time. Pediatric chiropractic works because it supports the baby’s innate ability to heal, repair and develop. Results are limitless.

What does Pediatric Chiropractic Care Help With?

We see kiddos for well checks, but we also see a lot of kiddos that are brought in because they are symptomatic and are in need of support. Things like colic, reflux, difficulty sleeping, latching issues, tongue ties, and digestive discomfort are all really common things we see everyday in our office. In the last few months, we have had new babies every week struggling with constipation, reflux, or overall digestive discomfort.

Adjusting a baby restores the brain’s ability to communicate to the nerves that regulate our digestive tract. Even the smallest misalignment at the top of our neck can create havoc and disrupt this innate regulation. That is how Chiropractic helps with all these things. All I do is correct any misalignments, and let the baby’s body begin to heal and develop, and the baby gets better. Repeat.

Pediatric Chiropractic is Extremely Safe & Gentle.

Another major concern regarding pediatric Chiropractic care is what is the adjustment like? Don’t worry, there’s no twisting, cracking or popping. I don’t even do that on adults, I certainly don’t do that on littles. Being that the bone is largely cartilage in these beginning stages, it doesn’t take much pressure to realign the bones for our babes.

Our littles lay in the pillows that our moms lay in throughout pregnancy, and usually sleep through their adjustment. To the outside person it looks like a little infant massage, or nothing at all. It’s a peaceful and gentle process that’s honestly such a beautiful thing to watch. We have a fully trained staff of mostly moms to step in and help whenever it’s needed. This is a huge resource and support to the families that seek care in our office. I love the work I get to do with our little ones, and do believe it’s where I’m meant to be. Because of that, it’s rare we have unhappy babies while they’re getting adjusted. I believe in the unconscious experience, and want to create a safe space where every patient feels happy and comfortable, even the ones that can’t talk quite yet.

Our office is a team committed to keeping babies happy. You can call us the baby whisperers if you want, because these littles stinkin love our office.

Constipation & Chiropractic Care

So let’s get to the point! I wanted to share on this topic for this month’s blog because my office has literally been full of kiddos as young as 5 weeks old, and old as 5 years old, seeking care in my office due to constipation. The results we are already seeing in every single one of these cases is incredible. Even though we are seeing results so quickly, it’s been heartbreaking to hear some of the stories of what was experienced before coming to Inspired.

No young child should be experiencing a colonoscopy if it can be avoided. Miralax is not a long-term solution. An uncomfortable and unhappy baby won’t just “grow out of it”. I have concern for our kids. Families are lacking so much resource on how to get to the root of some of these issues. The truth is, most of our littles could avoid the progression of most symptoms if they were checked by a Chiropractor in their early weeks and/or months of life. If only our healthcare system shared all the options available to parents to create healthy kiddos before it turns into a traumatic experience for them.

Chiropractic care for your child is a game changer, and is worth being one of your first calls, not a last resort.

Where to find a trusted Pediatric Chiropractor:

Not all Chiropractors are created equal, especially in the world of Pediatric Chiropractic. Seeing someone who is trained specifically to provide pediatric chiropractic care is important. Most of my training has been done with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, or the “ICPA” for short. I currently am working with Dr. Tony Ebel’s PX Doctor program, who is one of the professions most trusted Pediatric Chiropractors. Chiropractors that are associated with either of these are docs I trust. As always, I want to provide support that allows you to seek care that is of the standard we hold at Inspired, even if Inspired is not within your reach.
